James Ivey was born in Ipswich, Suffolk and studied Music Technology at Guildhall University, London.
After graduating, he worked for TSC (The Solutions Company), selling and installing recording studio equipment. This included designing and installing recording systems for Pete Townsend of The Who, Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds, Mark “Spike” Stent, and many more.
James left TSC for work in pop video production with FAB Audio, working on promos for U2, Pulp, Kylie, and Oasis, amongst others.
Having escaped London post-pandemic, James has built his dream home studio in the wilds of Essex, which allows him to continue his love of recording and mixing music for himself and for artists and projects that interest him.
His latest venture alongside The Studio Rats is his YouTube channel, Jivey Talks Tech. This new channel allows James to embrace his inner gear junkie and explore new audio inovations like immersive audio recording and mixing including Dolby Atmos.
